20,000 Irish fans to travel from Dublin Airport for Euro 2012

Travelling to Poland this weekend? Here’s Dublin Airport’s tips to know before you set out…

AROUND 20,000 IRISH fans are expected to depart from Dublin Airport for the Euro 2012 championships which open tonight in Poland.

Over 130 flights are scheduled to carry Irish fans throughout the duration of the tournament. Forty-six of those flights are in addition to the normal schedule.

Between today and tomorrow alone, 23 flights are scheduled to bring fans from Ireland over to Euro 2012 in time for the Republic of Ireland/Croatia fixture in Poznan on Sunday evening.

Another 55 flights are scheduled to leave Dublin between Sunday and Thursday before Ireland’s second match (which is against Spain in Gdansk on Thursday 14 June), and 15 more flights will depart for Poland on 19 and 20 June.

The Dublin Airport Authority is advising all fans to check their flight details ahead of their trip, including which of the airport’s two terminals their flight is due to depart from. Important documents such as passports should be photocopied before travelling and the copy should be kept separate to the original.

Passengers should arrive at the airport at least 90 minutes before the time of departure, regardless of whether they have checked in online or not, to ensure they have sufficient time to pass through the necessary security checks.

Information on the security restrictions concerning liquids and other items can be found on the Dublin Airport website.
