1. #R.I.P.: Minister of State Shane McEntee has passed away at the age of 56. The President, the Taoiseach and a large number of TDs have paid tribute to the Fine Gael TD today and extended their condolences to his wife and three children.
2. #ANGLO: Former Chairman and chief executive of Anglo Irish Bank Seán Fitzpatrick appeared in court today charged with 12 counts of making false or misleading statements to corporate auditors. The 64-year-old has been remanded on bail until March 1.
3. #QUINN: Bankrupt former billionaire Seán Quinn, who is currently serving a nine week jail sentence, is set to be released for three days over the Christmas period. The Irish Prison Service cited his age, behaviour and “long term health difficulties”, as well as those of his wife as the reasons for his temporary release.
4. #ABORTION: Pro-life organisation Youth Defence has been ordered to remove anti-abortion posters which had been put up on Molesworth Street in Dublin. The city council said the organisation had not applied for or received permission to put up the posters.
5. #GAY MARRIAGE: Pope Benedict XVI has criticised new concepts of the traditional family and warned that mankind itself is at stake when it comes to the issue of gay marriage. He said the question of family is the question of “what it is necessary to do to be true men”.
