1 #ROBBERY: One person has been arrested after an armed robbery at a bank in Stillorgan, south Dublin. Two men held up the local Bank of Ireland branch at around 11.30am with a firearm, threatening staff. They left with a small amount of cash.

2 #STRIKE: The head of the ESB group of unions says there’s “no doubt” that strike action would affect services. Workers have voted overwhelmingly for industrial action in a dispute over the semi-state company’s pension scheme.

3 #NO SMOKE: Minister James Reilly has announced that the Oireachtas Health Committee will hold hearings on new legislation bringing in standardised packaging for cigarettes Reilly said it was “another important step in the Government’s fight against the scourge of tobacco”.

4 #HORSES: Fifty horses have been removed from the Hollyhill area of Cork city in an operation carried out by the gardaí, Cork City Council and officials from the Department of Agriculture. The carcasses of three horses were also found at the site.

5 #BEAUTIFUL PAYDAY: Bono is in line for a multi-million dollar windfall from the sale of Forbes Magazine. The U2 star’s Elevation Partners private-equity firm owns a 45 per cent stake in the legacy business magazine, which has been put up for sale with a guide price of $400 million.
