1. #ACCIDENT: A four-year-old boy has been killed in a farming accident in County Mayo. The boy was taken to Belmullet District Hospital, but was pronounced dead. A post-mortem is due to take place in Ballina.
2. #MH370: Australian authorities said the discovery of aircraft wreckage in the Indian Ocean is “a very important development” in the hunt for MH370. Investigators are on the way to the scene.
3. #SHOPPERS: June was not a great month for Irish shoppers with the Greek crisis and the closure of Clerys impacting on our willingness to part with our cash. Less than one in five reported an improvement in their personal finances while one in three said that things had gotten worse.
4. #STAY SAFE: A full moon will make the beaches around Ireland more dangerous this weekend by causing rip tides. Irish Water Safety has urged people to be careful.
5. #FRANCE: Migrants gathered and attempted to storm the Channel Tunnel for a third night in an attempt to reach Britain.
6. #PTSB: The Irish Independent reports that Permanent TSB still has some of the houses repossessed from customers in the mortgage overcharging scandal. It’s reported some will be able to get their homes back. Those affected have been offered €50,000 in compensation for being wrongly evicted.
7. #ARRESTED: Gardaí in the west have arrested a father over the death of his six-month-old son who died after baby wipes were found lodged in the infant’s throat, reports the Irish Daily Mail.
8. #TRAINS: The Irish Times reports the EU is putting pressure on Ireland to put the contract for rail services in Ireland out to international tender. Iarnród Éireann’s 10-year contract is up for renewal in 2019.
9. #PANCREAS: A petition is due to be handed in to Beaumont Hospital later today calling for patients awaiting pancreas transplants not to be abandoned. One woman awaiting a transplant, Ciara Kelly, said she is getting weaker “day by day”.
