1. #ON TRIAL The trial of alleged Boston marathon bomber Dzokhar Tsarnaev will begin today. If found guilty, he could face the death penalty.

2. #FERGUSON A damning probe has found racial bias in the Ferguson police force. Reports from the US say that the investigation uncovered racial discrimination and multiple violations of citizens’ constitutional rights.

3. #PRANK CALL Two Sydney radio DJs broke Australian laws by prank-calling a hospital pretending to be the Queen and Prince Charles, TIME reports. The nurse who answered the call, Jacintha Saldhana, took her own life after the incident.

4. #OPERATION NASCAR An ongoing garda operation into motor insurance fraud has led to 16 people being charged. The people, aged between 22 and 60, will appear before Cork District Court this morning.

5. #BARRICADED Solicitor Brian O’Donnell has until this afternoon to leave a house on Vico Road in Killiney, after a receiver nailed court papers to the gate of the home.

6. #GROWTH New exchequer returns showed a big increase in tax returns last month – and Tánaiste Joan Burton told The Irish Times that it’s “possible now to see a route to restoration” in Ireland.

7. #SHOCK Two Australian drug smugglers in Indonesia will be executed by firing squad. Australian PM Tony Abbot said his country was “revolted” by the situation.

8. #TOP OF THE HEAP What’s the city with the best quality of living? A new survey says it’s Vienna, while Dublin places 34th overall, tied with Boston. This means the capital is the best-ranked city across the UK and Ireland.

9. #MIND YOUR LANGUAGE A retail store in Dublin has commented on a memo that asked staff to only speak English when they’re working. Fresh said that following the social media storm, it has consulted with staff and updated its communication policy to “help create an inclusive and welcoming environment”.
