1. #BERKELEY: The book of condolences for the students killed in Berkeley has opened in Dublin’s Mansion House. There are also reports emerging this morning that dry rot on the balcony was to blame for the incident.

2. #SOUTH CAROLINA: Nine people have been killed in a hate crime at a church in the southern United States. 

3. #MARY MCALEESE: The former president has written to the New York Times, saying it reached for a “lazy tabloid stereotype” over its reporting of the Berkeley tragedy.

4. #RUSSBOROUGH: Minister for Arts Heather Humphreys  has attempted to intervene to prevent the sale of any more of the Russborough House collection of paintings. 

5. #RENT: New figures from the PRTB have shown that rents increased at a faster rate outside of Dublin in the first quarter of this year. 

6. #ASYLUM SEEKERS: A report set to be published at the end of the month will suggest the doubling of welfare payments to those in the asylum system, The Irish Times is reporting today.

7. #MDMA: The Global Drugs Survey has found that women are more likely than men to be hospitalised after taking MDMA. 

8. #GREECE: Eurozone finance ministers are meeting in Luxembourg today over growing fears of a Greek exit from the Eurozone, reports RTÉ.

9. #RAMADAN: Today is the start of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan. There are 50,000 Muslims in Ireland – around 1.1% of the total population.
