1. #BANKING Ulster Bank customers were unable to access their ATM accounts or online accounts last night, due to an IT issue at their parent company RBS in the UK. The bank says that the problem has been solved, and apologised to anyone affected.
2. #MURDER A man is due to appear in court today in connection with the murder of a man whose body was found in Phoenix Park. The victim is said to be a Dubliner who was not a ‘typical’ homeless person, had a substantial amount of money in the bank, and lived outdoors occasionally.
3.#TOP-UPS Minister for Health James Reilly has dismissed claims that the Central Remedial Clinic had an agreement with the HSE over paying top-ups with CRC funds, the Irish Times reports. This conflicts with the CRC’s claim that it sent regular reports to the HSE on the payments.
4. #NEW YORK The train that derailed over the weekend in the Bronx was travelling at 82mph in a 30mph zone, a federal investigator has said. But it is not clear whether the issue was the result of human error or mechanical trouble.
5. #THOMAS BYRNE The Law Society will not compensate the victims of jailed ex-solicitor Thomas Byrne, as it is legally barred from doing so, the Irish Independent reports. The solicitor was jailed for 12 years yesterday for fraud.
6. #GLASGOW The final death toll from the Glasgow helicopter crash has been confirmed at nine. The recovery effort continues, with 11 people still in hospital and Sky News reporting three are in a serious condition.
7. #THAILAND Hundreds of opposition Thai protesters entered government headquarters after police said they would not resist demonstrators. The authorities lifted barriers in order to reduce tensions between protesters and police, following protests.
8. #BULLYING Lorraine Gallagher, mother of Erin and Shannon, Donegal teenagers who took their own lives, has begun legal proceedings against school authorities, the Irish Examiner reports. Erin took her own life amid claims she was bullied, while her sister said she could not go on without her.
9. #BEEP BEEP TDs and Senators have been instructed to stop using their mobile phones in the Oireachtas – because they interfere with the proceedings. The Ceann Comhairle sent an email telling members to turn off their phones, or put them in flight mode.
