Dundalk confirm ex-Liverpool midfielder Adorjan's return to Italy

The Hungarian made 21 appearances during his loan spell with Stephen Kenny’s side this season.

KRISZTIAN ADORJAN’S BRIEF spell in the SSE Airtricity League has come to an end after Dundalk confirmed that the 25-year-old has returned to his parent club in Italy.

Adorjan signed for the Lilywhites on loan from Novara back in February. He went on to make 21 appearances for the current Premier Division leaders, scoring three goals.

It’s understood that manager Stephen Kenny was keen to extend the former Hungary U21 international’s stay at Oriel Park, but instead he has been recalled by Novara, who are preparing for life in the Italian third tier after being relegated from Serie B.

The creative midfielder will be fondly remembered by Dundalk supporters, particularly for scoring the opening goal in a vital 2-1 win over Cork City in June which saw the Louth outfit regain top spot.

Adorjan has been a Novara player since 2014, when his five-year stint with Liverpool came to an end. His only first-team experience while on the books at Anfield came during a loan spell with Dutch outfit Groningen.

The loss of Adorjan for Dundalk has been tempered by the recent signing of Patrick McEleney, who returned to the club last month after a spell at Oldham Athletic.
