Aer Lingus flight diverted to Toulouse due to bomb scare at Perpignan airport

Perpignan airport was evacuated due to a bomb scare this afternoon.

AN AER LINGUS flight has been diverted to Toulouse Airport this afternoon following a bomb scare at Perpignan airport.

The Aer Lingus flight, which departed from Dublin at 12.20pm en route to Perpignan airport in the south of France, was diverted due to a suspect suitcase being identified in the airport.

The airline confirmed that the aircraft was diverted as a result of the closure of Perpignan airport due to a security alert.

L’Independent newspaper reports that the airport was evacuated and a controlled explosion took place.

“The flight was approximately one hour out from Perpignan when it received information of the closure. The flight was carrying 144 passengers and four infants,” said Aer Lingus.

The airport has now reopened. Flight EI 510 continued its journey from Toulouse to Perpignan and landed there at 5.11pm.
