WE IN IRELAND tend to take the name Aer Lingus for granted.

Specifically, it’s name.

For those who don’t know, Aer Lingus translates to “air fleet” in English and “lingus” is an Anglicisation of the Irish word, “loingeas”.

But while it might sound perfectly fine to us, it conjures up completely different connotations to non-Irish people.

Sexual connotations.

It reminds people of a certain sexual act. You know the one.

Just in case you didn’t know, this guy spelled it all out for you

Thank you for clarifying, James.

People are concerned that Aer Lingus doesn’t know

The whole thing has led to passengers boarding Aer Lingus flights with certain expectations

Because, let’s face it, guys…

But hey, just because it sounds mildly sexual doesn’t mean it is — as this guy explained

Not everyone thinks that it sounds sexy, though

Even Mams think it sounds filthy.

It has its fans, though.

And we still love you, Aer Lingus.
