Aiden McGeady at another crossroads as Ronald Koeman says he has no future at Everton

After struggling for game-time at Goodison Park, the 30-year-old is searching for a new club again.

AIDEN MCGEADY IS set for his fourth club in three years after Ronald Koeman confirmed the 30-year-old winger is not part of his plans at Everton and is free to leave.

The Republic of Ireland international was brought to Goodison Park by Roberto Martinez in January 2014 after a stint in Russia with Spartak Moscow.

But in 18 months on Merseyside, McGeady has failed to hold down a regular place in the starting XI and has made just 14 Premier League starts.

At the beginning of the 2014/2015 campaign, it seemed the former Celtic player had rediscovered some form – scoring a superb goal for the Toffees in their opening fixture against Arsenal before grabbing a brace for his country in a crucial 2-1 away win in Georgia.

But it was a false dawn.

Everton signed Aaron Lennon, McGeady got injured and his impact for club and country after that was minimal.

At the start of the following season, he started a League Cup game against Barnsley but was taken off at half-time.

He hasn’t featured for the club since.

For the latter part of the season, he was on loan at Sheffield Wednesday but fell out of favour just as the club’s Championship season began to take off.

He was left out of the squad for the Owl’s play-off semi-final and final – his dramatic regression contextualised by the fact that Wednesday allowed McGeady play a friendly for Ireland rather than include him in the biggest match of their recent history.

McGeady returned to Everton for pre-season but Koeman, who replaced Martinez as the club’s manager in the summer, doesn’t want him.

“We made that fast decision about McGeady and maybe, for one or two or three more, it will be very difficult for them to be part of the team because we have a big squad but I will first speak to the player”.
