FERNANDO ALONSO WILL start Sunday’s British Grand Prix in pole position for Ferrari.
The Spaniard, who currently leads the drivers standings, will be joined on the first grid by Red Bull’s Marc Webber.
It will be Alonso’s first start on pole since the 2010 Singapore Grand Prix.
Mercedes veteran Michael Schumacher will be third on the grid, with current world champion Sebastian Vettel completing the first two rows on the grid.
It was a disappointing day for the Britons on show. Lewis Hamilton will start his home Grand Prix in eighth, while Jenson Button starts down in 18th.
“It was not easy,” said Alonso.
“To complete a lap with no huge mistakes is not easy in these conditions. [I'm] Happy to be on pole after nearly two years. In these conditions the qualifying is probably the least important of the year but obviously for visibility it is always better to be on pole.”
