TIME FLIES WHEN you’re having fun or watching the Premier League, and on that note, the first month of the season has already been and gone.
There’s been plenty of comedy provided over the course of August, and we’re not talking solely about Dejan Lovren’s performance against West Ham or Manchester United’s transfer wishlist (stunningly, Gareth Bale, Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar and Thomas Müller all decided against leaving their respective clubs in the end).
From Milner’s woe to Gomis’ role-playing, there have been no shortage of memorable moments this month, and here, we rank each of them in order of hilariousness.
7. James Milner’s unfortunate free-kick
Liverpool’s summer signing James Milner produced an early contender for worst free kick of the season against Bournemouth. It’s presumably not exactly what the Reds had in mind when they decided to offer him a contract reported to be worth £150,000 a week.
6. Jermain Defoe’s PA advertisement
Are you comfortable sending emails, watering plants and planning for black history month? Then a job as Jermain Defoe’s Executive Personal Assistant might just be for you.
5. Lukaku love

Premier League players are just a bunch of soulless, overpaid prima-donnas, right? Right, except if they accidentally hit you in the face with a football, then they’re lovely.
4. Rose of Tralee
Of all the cringeworthy moments in the Rose of Tralee over the years, this one has to rank pretty highly. “Aston Villa fan” Roisin Ni Mathuna was unexpectedly presented with a video message from defender Leandro Bacuna. Unfortunately, neither herself nor presenter Dáithí Ó Sé had any notion who the footballer in question was. “Oh my God, this is not happening on live television” just about perfectly sums up this delightfully awkward incident.
3. A beaming Aaron Lennon
There is a fine line between joy and despair in football. Apparently, the difference is epitomised by signing for Everton on loan and permanently, at least judging by these contrasting happy/sad Aaron Lennon pics taken in January and September respectively.
2. Jim White’s shenanigans

As usual, Jim White got excited for Transfer Deadline Day so that you don’t have to. In fairness, he was probably the best thing about it again (at least, in a so-bad-it’s-good kind of way).
1. Bafétimbi Gomis’ celebration
The Premier League has been full of iconic celebrations over the years, from Jurgen Klinsmann’s dive to Eric Cantona’s non-celebration celebration. The latest candidate for this prestigious list is surely Bafétimbi Gomis’s increasingly ubiquitous and oddly endearing impersonation of a panther, and judging how Swansea have started the season, it will be an even more familiar sight in the coming months.
