Amir Khan loses appeal against Peterson

The boxer has been told to “let it go” by his opponent following the controversial outcome of last week’s fight.

THE IBF HAS opted to reject Amir Khan’s appeal for a rematch after the boxer lost out in his match-up with Lamont Peterson, following a controversial split decision last week.

And Khan, who lost his IBF and WBA light-welterweight world titles as a result of the defeat, decided to protest the decision.

However, the IBF insisted the verdict was fair and that no rematch was required, with IBF championships chairman, Lindsay Tucker, defending the referee’s pivotal decision to deduct two points from Khan. He told reporters:

“We found no discrepancies that would affect the outcome or the result of the fight. We decided not to order an immediate rematch on the basis of the fact that in the rules, if the referee feels that it’s a foul, then that’s his call to take a point.”

However, a rematch still seems possible, after Paterson told Sky Sports News that he was willing to fight Khan for a second time.
