Ireland lose Reid as hernia operation rules him out for up to six weeks

Martin O’Neill will have to do without the Nottingham Forest star for next Wednesday’s friendly.

IRELAND WON’T HAVE Andy Reid’s services for the upcoming friendly with Serbia next week as the midfielder is set for a spell on the sidelines.

Reid, who has arguably been in the form of his career with Nottingham Forest this season, is struggling with a hernia problem and has been told he will need surgery.

The 31-year-old was named in Martin O’Neill’s 29-man squad for Wednesday’s game in Dublin with the Ireland manager rightly predicting at the time that he would lose a couple of players to injury.

“Unfortunately we’ve lost Andy to a hernia,” Forest boss Billy Davies told the club’s website.

“He’ll be having an operation this week but I’d expect him to be out for around four to six weeks after that.”
