“THIS IS NOT a story about doping. This is a story about power.”
A new documentary on the Lance Armstrong doping scandal promises to give an insider’s view on one of the most explosive sports stories in history.
In 2009 filmmaker Alex Gibney, director of ‘Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room’, was hired to make a film about Armstrong’s decision to come out of retirement and return to cycling.
Time and again Gibney heard Armstrong swear that he had never taken performance-enhancing drugs.
Four years later, the two were on camera again as the disgraced American was forced to face up to his involvement in what USADA called “the most sophisticated, professionalised and successful doping programme that sport has ever seen.”
‘The Armstrong Lie’ premiered at the Venice Film Festival last month in opens in America in November. No details of an Irish release have been announced.
