At least three British footballers arrested on match-fixing charges

The Daily Telegraph sting uncovered a “fixer” who pledged access to lower-league football results.

SIX PEOPLE HAVE been arrested after an English newspaper exposed match-fixing in the lower leagues of English football.

At least three of the men are current footballers and one is an agent, the Daily Telegraph reports.

Britain’s National Crime Agency confirmed the arrests, which came after the paper met with a “fixer”, who claimed he could influence the outcome of games.

The man demanded as little as £50,000 for his services.

An NCA spokesperson said:

“Six men have been arrested across the country as part of an NCA investigation into alleged football match fixing.

“The focus of the operation is a suspected international illegal betting syndicate.

“The NCA is working closely with the Gambling Commission and the Football Association. This is an active investigation and we are unable to provide further detail at this time.”

The video shows a meeting between a reporter and the man, who pledges to deliver the results of upcoming games.

The FA says that it is working with the NCA and will make no further comment.
