ROY HODGSON IS expected to be confirmed as the new England manager later this afternoon.
The FA have called a press conference for 4pm at Wembley Stadium at which Hodgson, 64, will be officially presented as Fabio Capello’s successor.
The announcement will bring a quick close to a process which saw the West Brom manager emerge as a surprise candidate for the job on Sunday evening.
After preliminary talks with FA chairman David Bernstein, Hodgson travelled to Wembley yesterday to meet the remainder of the four-man headhunting committee — chief executive Alex Horne, director of football development Sir Trevor Brooking and Club England managing director Adrian Bevington.
Prior to the news of the FA’s approach, Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp had been seen as the prohibitive front-runner to replace Capello. The Italian resigned at the beginning of February following a row over the FA’s decision to strip John Terry of his international captaincy.
