Athlone IT named as venue for Sigerson Cup Finals Weekend

Meanwhile, the climax of the Fitzgibbon Cup will take place in Galway by GMIT.

THIS YEAR’S SIGERSON Cup Finals Weekend will take place in Athlone IT, while the Fitzgibbon Cup Finals Weekend will be held in Galway by GMIT, with the dates of the fixtures yet to be confirmed, it has been announced.

The 2012/13 season also features the return of  Trinity College to the Sigerson Cup and Division 1 League for the first time since 2005.

Meanwhile, University College Cork will be the team to beat, having done the league double last year, as they achieved success in both codes.

The 2012/2013 Irish Daily Mail Higher Education GAA competitions are set to get underway on Tuesday October 9 , with Division 1 of the Fresher Football Leagues the first of 13 league competitions to throw-in.

173 teams will feature in the leagues overall, while more than 2,500 students are set to participate in 390 fixtures between now and the end of the year.

The games will be hosted by over 50 campuses throughout the four provinces.
