Audi's new carbon fibre bike weighs about the same as a box of Rice Krispies

It’s pricey though, buy a decent lock.

CARMAKER AUDI HAS developed an exclusive new racing bike that weighs less than a box of cereal.

The Audi Sports Racing Bike is made from carbon fibre with the frame weighing just 790g, that’s also about the same as 32 packets of crisps.

Audi says they’ll only be making 50 of the bikes but, as you expect, they come at a price. A hefty one.

They’re being sold by request only on Audi’s online shop for a bracing €17,500.

The German car maker says that the carbon fibre used to make the bike was developed at a specialised Japanese manufacturer that also produces lightweight materials for its Le Mans racing cars.

The bicycle also comes with a saddle made from carbon and covered with Italian leather.

When all the attachments are added to the frame, including important stuff like wheels and gears, the bicycle weighs a total of 5.8kg.

Speaking to the Wall Street Journal, an Audi spokesperson said it’s still “extremely rare for a bike to weigh less than six kilogrammes”.

The bike was first shown at the Geneva Motor Show in March with the company saying one the 50 is to be sold soon in Japan.
