Here's what's coming to the movies this August

We’ve got all the latest releases from kids to indie to blockbuster.

SUMMERTIME IS TRADITIONALLY blockbuster time.

But as we’re nearing the end (say it ain’t so) of summer, this month’s releases are of a wider scope – so we’ll be ok.

We’ve rounded up the best of the new releases for August – let us know what you’ll go see in the comments below.

Manglehorn

Movieclips Trailers / YouTube

This one looks like quite the weepy. It stars Al Pacino as a heartbroken small town locksmith  obsessed with a former love who meets Holly Hunter who (probable spoiler) teaches him how to love again. But we’re only guessing.

(And you can gather that much yourself from the trailer).

Released 7 August 2015

Absolutely Anything

LionsgateFilmsUK / YouTube

A group of aliens give magical powers to Neil (Simon Pegg) in a test that will determine the fate of the earth – not that he knows it. If he uses his powers for good, the earth has nothing to worry about, if not… imminent destruction.

Can he save the world?

Released 14 August 2015

Pixels

Sony Pictures Entertainment / YouTube

Classic arcade games get sent up into space and are misinterpreted by aliens as a declaration of war.

Sounds plausible.

Can Adam Sandler save us from Pacman?

Released 14 August 2015

Precinct Seven Five

Movieclips Film Festivals & Indie Films / YouTube

‘I never had any fear of being busted, cos the cops who were around me would never give me up.’

That’s Michael Dowd, an NYPD cop in Brooklyn in the 1980s and Precinct Seven Five tells his story of his journey from policeman to crack dealer gangster.

Gripping stuff.

Released 14 August 2015

Strange Magic

Movie Trailers / YouTube

Here’s one for the kids – and if you don’t have your own you could probably borrow some for the afternoon.

Strange Magic tells of a world where magic meets mystery and battle it out for an evil potion.

Released 14 August 2015

Trainwreck

Movieclips Trailers / YouTube

And here’s one definitely not for the kids. Amy Schumer is ‘a modern girl who does what she wants’ having grown up believing monogamy is BS.

But then she meets a sports doctor who wants to actually  date her – and she can’t deal.

What’s a girl to do?

Released 14 August 2015

45 Years

Curzon Artificial Eye / YouTube

Kate and Geoff are a few days away from celebrating their 45th wedding anniversary when Geoff is told that the body of his first love has been found – frozen in the Swiss Alps.

Will there be a marriage to celebrate in five days?

Released 28 August 2015
