What's the craziest baby name you've ever heard?

“Anal”, “Minister” and “Lucifer” have all been banned in New Zealand.

THOSE SENSIBLE FOLK in New Zealand have released a list of baby names that have been banned since 2001.

Bearing in mind that this list is based on names that people actually wanted to give their children, let’s mull over the fact that ‘Anal’, ‘Messiah’, ‘Queen Victoria’, ‘Juztice’ and ‘Mafia No Fear’ are among the monikers vetoed by authorities.

Spoilsports.

The most commonly turned down name was Justice, followed by ‘King’, ‘Princess’, ‘Prince’ and ‘Royal’. ‘Lucifer’ and ‘Christ’ are in there too, along with people who wanted to place brackets around names, or backslashes between names.

Other favourites are:

  • Sir
  • Constable
  • Emperor
  • 3rd
  • 89
  • . (full stop)
  • 4 Real
  • H-Q

Not every country is as vigilant as New Zealand though. In 2012 BabyCenter.com revealed that there were a number of babies called ‘Shoog’, ‘Burger’, ‘Ball’, ‘Donathan’ and ‘Hippo’, while in November 2012 baby ‘Hashtag’ was born.

In 2007 a Swedish couple fought (and won) for the right to name their baby girl ‘Metallica’ after it was noted that the name ‘Google’ had been deemed acceptable in 2005.

Last year the most popular baby names in Ireland were the fairly sedate ‘Jack’ and ‘Emily’, while the less common Maxon and Lexi also made the top 100 list.
