Benzema could bring Premier League title to Arsenal - Henry

The former Gunners star feels that Arsene Wenger is close to assembling a team who could challenge.

ARSENAL LEGEND THIERRY Henry believes that landing Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema would make his old side into serious title contenders both in the Premier League and Champions League.

It is understood the Gunners remain hopeful of securing the French forward, a long-term target for Arsene Wenger, despite Madrid’s protestations that he will not be sold, and are prepared to wait until late in the transfer window.

Though Henry feels that Wenger’s men are not far from doing something special, he feels that they need more strength in depth up front alongside Olivier Giroud and sees Benzema as the ideal candidate.

“I always say it’s their year but there is a genuine buzz around the place right now,” he told talkSPORT.

“I think they can challenge this year for real if they stay injury-free.

“Giroud alone as a striker there – you can’t win the league, you need another type of striker.

“I think Giroud is doing really well – he went on to score 14 goals in 18 games, that’s amazing – but sometimes you need a different type of striker and I think that, if they can get Benzema, suddenly they are a real title contender and also in the Champions League.”
