THE FIRST OF the seven people injured when a balcony collapsed in Berkeley, California claiming the lives of six Irish students, has left hospital.

RTÉ reports that Sean Fahey, 21, from Rathmines in Dublin, will fly home to Dublin in the coming days.

The other six students remain in hospital, but all are reported to be making improvements. Jack Halpin and Conor Flynn are both said to be in a fair condition, while Niall Muray and Clodagh Cogley are reported to be doing well, despite serious injuries.

Both Hannah Waters and Aoife Beary, who are still said to be in a serious condition, are believed to be showing signs of improvement.

In Dublin, the funerals of the first victims to come home will be held today.

The funeral of Eimear Walsh will be held in Foxrock at 11am, while Eoghan Culligan’s will be held in Rathfarnham at the same time.

The funerals of Niccolai Schuster and Olivia Burke will take place tomorrow and Lorcán Miller’s will be held on Thursday.
