Brogan returns to Dublin side for league semi-final

Opponents Mayo have made two changes for the clash in Croke Park.

BERNARD BROGAN RETURNS to the Dublin team for tomorrow’s Division 1 league semi-final against Mayo.

Brogan has been named at corner-forward for the Croke Park clash having not featured since their league victory over Kildare last month.

Jason Whelan, a member of the Ballymun Kickhams side that contested the recent All-Ireland club final, is a newcomer to the side at wing-forward.

The inclusion of that duo represent the only two changes from the Dublin side that drew with Donegal last week as Tomas Brady and Kevin McManamon are the players to make way.

DUBLIN: Stephen Cluxton (Parnells); Kevin O’Brien (Naomh Mearnóg), Johnny Cooper (Na Fianna), Darren Daly (Fingal Ravens); Philly McMahon (Ballymun Kickhams), Ger Brennan (St Vincent’s), Jack McCaffrey (Clontarf); Michael Dara MacAuley (Ballyboden St Enda’s), Cian O’Sullivan (Kilmacud Crokes); Jason Whelan (Ballymun Kickhams), Diarmuid Connolly (St Vincent’s), Paul Flynn (Fingallians); Paul Mannion (Kilmacud Crokes), Paddy Andrews (St Brigid’s), Bernard Brogan (St Oliver Plunkett’s-Eoghan Ruaidh).

Meanwhile Dublin boss Jim Gavin has revealed that Alan Brogan will not feature in this season’s league as he continues to battle back from a groin injury.

The problem hampered his involvement last season and Brogan is now targeting a return to action this summer

“They’ve modified his programme,” stated Gavin. “I think with Alan, we just have to make sure that when he comes back that he’s ready to perform.

“Certainly I’m not going to push him along. He needs time to get back and get back up to speed.

“There was an emphasis earlier on on getting him some league time but that hasn’t worked out so they’ve looked at it again and his focus is on the championship now.”

Ciaran Kilkenny and James McCarthy are both continuing their comebacks from injury.

Dublin’s opponents Mayo have made two changes with Chris Barrett and Jason Doherty coming back into their team at corner-back and full-forward respectively.
