Bertram Allen secures Ireland's Olympic spot in show jumping

The International Federation for Equestrian Sports (FEI) confirmed the news today.

BERTRAM ALLEN HAS secured an individual show jumping spot for Ireland at the upcoming Rio Olympics, with an Irish team place for eventing having already been sealed.

The International Federation for Equestrian Sports (FEI) confirmed Ireland would be awarded a spot on the basis of Allen’s Olympic ranking, while Denis Lynch narrowly missed out on a second spot, though his ranking does mean Ireland have the first reserve slot should another country be unable to compete.

Allen’s achievement does not necessarily mean he will be on the plane to Rio though, with the Olympic spot awarded to the country rather than the individual rider.

In a statement released, Horse Sport Ireland Chairman Professor Patrick Wall said “great credit” was due to Allen and Lynch for their performances.

The Eventing team secured qualification back in 2014 and they have been preparing since then,” he added.

“Team Ireland Equestrian is in a great place now with phenomenal talent and I’m confident we can produce the goods in Rio.”

Judy Reynolds is also hoping to secure an individual spot for Ireland in dressage with the outcome of her performances yet to be confirmed.
