LOTS OF US, have dusted off the running trainers since the new year and trotted slowly back onto the road. But why not try to make those hard yards a little bit easier or more productive. Here’s some of our favourite apps to help you on the path to fitness in in 2013.
I’ve used this app – modestly — myself and is one of the more popular bits of software available to runners. RunKeeper allows you to track your route using GPS, keeping tabs on pace, distance, route, calories burnt, times you fell/vomited into a garden etc.
Afterwards, like any top athlete, you can sync the data to your online account. Particularly good for those training towards targets like marathons.

Another feature-rich piece of kit which is built on the success of popular site mapmyrun.com. This app allows you to trace a route before you head out the door and afterwards feeds you the data on your workout. This can be demoralising depending on your workrate admittedly.

Micoach by Adidas
Someone once gave me the actual miCoach contraption which you strap to your arm or shoe. But the app is even handier.
This piece of kit has all the usual bells and whistles as regards logging your workrate but there’s one cool USP: a real-time voice coaching in your ear. Even better: you can pick the voice of well-known athletes. Victoria Pendelton for me; they didn’t have Roddy Collins for some reason.

I’ved never used it but it’s very popular. This reviewer writes:
