Limerick player travels the road to Croker from the Scottish Highlands

Hats off to Limerick’s Bobby O’Brien for the commitment he showed last weekend.

YOU CAN’T FAULT the commitment of Limerick footballer Bobby O’Brien to his county.

The Bruff player lined out at midfield for his county in their success against Offaly in Saturday’s Division 4 football league final in Croke Park.

But O’Brien is a student in Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen in Scotland where he is studying physiotherapy.

And he’s currently based on a work placement in Fort William in the Scottish Highlands, where he set off from last Friday afternoon on his journey home.

And then on Saturday afternoon he was in action for his county’s senior football side in Croke Park, coming up here against Offaly’s Richie Dalton.

Limerick manager Maurice Horan takes his hat off to O’Brien for his dedication.

“Ah it’s serious commitment. Bobby flies home every weekend, he’s right up in the north of Scotland. It’s a mammoth journey home for him. I think it’s five hours before he gets to the airport.

“It’s a huge effort he’s putting in. It’s amazing what he’s achieving, being able to get through games without training with a team during the week.

“He’s following his program, his training schedule religiously so you’ve got to take your hat off to him. He’s suriving matches at that pace and it’s great for us.”
