Galway's winless run extends to five games after entertaining draw against Bohs

It was honours even at Dalymount Park.

BOHEMIANS AND GALWAY United played out a 1-1 draw as both teams returned to Premier Division action at a rain-soaked Dalymount Park.

Nigerian forward Ismahil Akinade scored for the third consecutive league game to give the home side the lead after 10 minutes, only for Ryan Connolly to equalise shortly after.

After a blistering start to the game, Bohs got the opening goal of the game their play deserved, after Keith Buckley stormed down the right side for Akinade to coolly slot past Conor Winn in the Galway goal.

Before the game, Bohs manager Keith Long emphasised the importance of maintaining their good form prior to the mid-season break, when they had won four games on the bounce in all competitions, but the home side could only hold on to their lead for 19 minutes.

Former Derby County trainee, Connolly found some space at the edge of the box to drill a low shot past a hapless Dean Delany in the Bohs goal.

Former Ipswich Town and Dublin GAA goalkeeper Shane Supple watched on from the bench for the first time since his transfer to Phibsborough club, but neither he would have been able to prevent the superb strike.

In the second-half, Connolly came close to giving the Tribesmen the lead but his free-kick just missed the target, Bohs themselves could have won the game late on but Paddy Kavanagh’s fine header was palmed away by Winn.

The home side continued to look for a winner, as the influential Aymen Ben Mohamed returned from international duty, and he nearly set up a grandstand finish but efforts from Kavanagh and Dave Mulcahy failed to trouble the Galway goalkeeper.

The point moves Galway up to fifth on 23 points, with Bohs dropping to ninth, five points behind their visitors.
