NEW IRISH MUSIC had a chance to find new fans with the launch of a new iPhone app called Breaking Tunes.

The app brings all the best features of the Breaking Tunes website to iPhone owners – the ability to search and listen to new Irish bands, find out where they are performing and share artist tracks and videos. There are around 1,900 artists profiled on the new app.

The free app is part of the campaign to give new Irish artists their break. It is the brainchild of First Music Contact (FMC), an information and advice resource for musicians and the independent music sector in Ireland. This is the group that also runs the hugely popular Hard Working Class Heroes music festival and brings new Irish acts to music showcases around the world.

Tourism and Culture Minister Mary Hanafin said that the Breakingtunes app is one of 25 new projects that received funding under her department’s Cultural Technology intiative last year.

To download the app, type ‘Breakingtunes’ into the iTunes App Store search box.
