Father of five killed in suspicious house fire in Bray

There were two house fires in Dublin and Wicklow overnight.

A 55-YEAR-OLD man died at a house fire in Bray in the early hours of this morning.

Gardaí say they are treating the blaze at the property in Oldcourt Avenue, off the Boghall Road, as suspicious.

Units of the Wicklow Fire Brigade from Bray attended the scene before 4.30am and it is believed the victim, David Costigan,  was trapped inside.

He was located and CPR was administered but he was later pronounced dead at the scene.

RTÉ reports that Costigan, was a father of five adult children and was in a wheelchair.

The victim’s remains were removed  from the scene, which was sealed off for technical examinations.  Gardaí said a man in his 20s was also present in the house but was not injured.

Gardaí have asked for any witnesses – or anybody who was in the vicinity of Oldcourt Avenue – to contact them on 01 666 5300 or on the Confidential Line 1800 666 111.

Second blaze

The Dublin Fire Brigade attended a second fire which broke out in Holywell in Swords before 12.30am this morning.

Two adults and two children escaped the blaze. The children were taken to Temple Street hospital, while their mother has been brought to the Mater for treatment.
