Bray Town Council attempts to evict Councillor John Brady, he says no way

Brady says he’s “not making his family homeless”.

BRAY TOWN COUNCIL attempted to evict Sinn Féin Councillor John Brady yesterday.

The Councillor and his family received the eviction notice last month.

Brady said previously that the eviction notice is over work he did on the Bray council house ten years ago without permission.

The council confirmed to TheJournal.ie that tenants “cannot modify or alter houses without the permission of the council”.

The Councillor resisted attempts to evict him yesterday morning.

Brady lives in the home with his wife and five children, he has lived there for the past 13 years.

He posted on his Facebook page that “Just after 10am the council knocked on our door and asked us to leave and hand over the keys.

They were politely told that under no circumstances would we be putting our family on the side of road. They were told to bring that message back to Bray Town Council.

Speaking to TheJournal.ie Brady said that his wife and children were in the house when the knock came and that he told the council “We have nowhere else to go”.

“It’s been very difficult to deal with and it’s the sense of not knowing what’s coming next week or the week after.

You don’t know when you walk out the front door if you’ll be able to walk back in when you return.

He said it remains to be seen if the Council will get a court order to have the family removed from the house.

The Councillor added that “Under advice from our legal team we can’t say too much more”.

However he did thank people “for their fantastic support” which he said “has kept our spirits high”.
