Brazil beat Uruguay to reach Confederations Cup final

A late header by defensive midfielder Paulinho sealed the win.

HOSTS AND HOLDERS Brazil reached the final of the Confederations Cup tonight after beating Copa America champions Uruguay 2-1 in their semi-final.

A late header by defensive midfielder Paulinho sealed the win.

Brazilian veteran striker Fred, who began his career in Belo Horizonte, had given them the lead after Uruguay’s Diego Forlan had missed a penalty early in the first-half.

However, the Uruguayans levelled early in the second-half as Edinson Cavani shot home after a dreadful mix-up in the hosts’ defence.

Brazil will play the winner of tomorrow’s semi-final between world champions Spain and Italy in a rematch of the Euro 2012 final which the Spaniards won.
