Missing woman had been "very anxious and distressed" says daughter

Gardaí have asked property owners to check their grounds in the search for 72-year-old Breda Delaney.

Updated: 19.30

THE DAUGHTER OF a woman in her 70s missing from her home in Blackrock in south Dublin since early on Saturday has issued an appeal for help tracing her mother.

Breda Delaney (72) was last seen at her home at Avondale Court in the southside coastal suburb in the early hours on Saturday morning.

She had lately been “very anxious and distressed” her daughter Emer told Sean O’Rourke on RTÉ radio this morning.

“My dad realised she was missing around midday and went to the guards at that stage. He thought she was upstairs sleeping,” she explained.

A missing person alert was issued and searches have been taking place in the area since. Gardaí renewed their appeal this evening. They said they are concerned for her welfare and have requested property owners in the Blackrock area to check their premises and grounds.

Civil defence, Coast Guard units, Dun Laoghaire RNLI, harbour police, and gardaí were involved in a large-scale search of the wider coastal area yesterday.

The effort has been continuing this morning.

“I’m still particularly concerned about coastal areas in Dublin. Particularly between Dun Laoghaire and Dalkey and Killiney, that kind of area.”

Searches were also being carried out in parks and woodland, she said.
