Brendan O'Connor insists he's not hanging around for long in his new radio slot

He did mention Tubridy, however.

RTÉ PRESENTER BRENDAN O’Connor has insisted he is not John Murray’s replacement on RTÉ Radio 1′s, but is merely providing holiday cover.

The state broadcaster announced last month that The John Murray Show would be coming to an end after five years, but that Murray himself will return to RTÉ Radio 1 in the autumn in a “brand new role”.

O’Connor is filling in for Murray until a new permanent presenter for the show is found.

Opening the show this morning, he insisted he won’t be sticking around.

“I’m not replacing anyone”, O’Connor said, “Nobody can replace John Murray.”

“I was booked in for holiday cover, so I’m here for four weeks and all I’m doing is keeping the seat warm for whoever the anointed one will be in four weeks.”

So it’ll be Tubs or whoever else. I don’t know if it’s Tubs, I have no information whatsoever.

“In the meantime, I think basically everyone else was gone on holidays so they’ve stuck me in for four weeks, so we’ll try to enjoy ourselves anyway,” O’Connor continued.

O’Connor’s Saturday Night Show came to an end in May, with RTÉ lining up Ray D’Arcy to take over the slot with a new programme later this year.

However, the broadcaster said that the Corkman would not be leaving Montrose completely.
