A BRITISH AIRWAYS plane has made an emergency landing in Canada after a bomb threat, local media report.

The Las Vegas to London flight landed at Montreal Airport just before 6am local time and was searched by police sniffer dogs and a Swat team..

The Montreal Gazette reports that the airline received a bomb threat, although British Airways and local police have not confirmed the reports.

The paper adds that BA is booking passengers on to other flights, or arrange for them to stay at local hotels.

The evacuation was described as “peaceful”.

In a statement British Airways said the flight “landed safely this morning at Montreal and customers left the aircraft as normal after the Captain took the decision to divert the aircraft as a precaution”.

We are looking after the customers and will provide hotel rooms for them and will rebook them to other flights as soon as we can.

“We are working with the Canadian authorities and giving them our fullest support,” the statement added.
