British teenagers arrested while travelling 'to join Islamic State'

The three have been detained by Turkish authorities.

BRITISH POLICE SAY three male teenagers have been detained in Turkey because they were planning to travel to Syria.

Police say two are 17 and the third is 19. Their names have not been released.

Police said counter-terrorism officers learned on Friday the teens had gone missing and were thought to be travelling to Syria.

A number of Britons have travelled there to join Islamic State extremists, including three British schoolgirls who left their families in London last month.

Police say Turkish authorities were alerted and that the three were detained before they had a chance to travel to Syria.

The three are in detention and their families have been notified.
