IRISH JOCKEY NINA Carberry was crowned The Irish Times/Irish Sports Council Sportswoman of the Year for 2011 today.
The 27-year-old from Ratoath collected the award at a ceremony in Dublin for her outstanding achievements in Irish sport.
Carberry became only the second female jockey to win the Irish Grand National when she partnered Organisedconfusion for her uncle Arthur Moore back in April and was presented by an Taoiseach Enda Kenny.
She is part of a racing dynasty – her father Tommy Carberry won the Aintree Grand National with L’Escargot back in 1975, brother Paul did the same thing 24 years later on Bobbyjo, while her other brother Philip is also a jockey.
