OVER 30 OF the Cardiff Blues players and coaching staff are in the process of shaving their heads for charity.
The Welsh side promised to go bare-headed if they managed to raise a targeted £10,000 for Velindre Hospital in Cardiff. That figure was surpassed yesterday and the Blues have stuck to their word.
The campaign was launched under the title ‘Smile for our Captain’, in relation to Blues skipper Matthew Rees’ treatment for testicular cancer. The Blues aim was to “raise as much money and awareness for the Velindre Hospital as possible to support the amazing service they provide not only to patients but to their family as well.”
The fundraising efforts have included the sale of ‘Smile For Our Captain’ wristbands as well as appeals for online donations.
With the target sum of £10,000 comfortably attained, the club’s players are going under the razor this afternoon. We have to say we feel particularly sorry for the dread-locked Josh Navidi and the flowing-haired Luke Hamilton. It will also be interesting to see Leigh Halfpenny and Sam Warburton sporting intimidating skinheads.
