Cat rescues baby abandoned in street by cuddling it to keep it warm

It also meowed loudly until someone came to help. Cats = heroes.

THIS ONE GOES out to all the people who think cats are evil. You are (mostly) wrong.

A tabby cat named Masha found an abandoned baby on the streets of Obninsk in western Russia, and snuggled up to it to keep it warm until help arrived.

Yahoo reports that local woman Irina Lavrova had gone out to put rubbish in the bin when she heard the cat meowing loudly.

When she went to investigate, she discovered a baby boy lying in a cardboard box, with Masha next to him.

She said:

Clearly, her mothering instincts had taken over and she wanted to protect the child. [The baby] was well-dressed with a little hat and whoever left him there had even left a few nappies and some baby food.

Lavrova called an ambulance and the three-month-old boy was taken to hospital, where he was later declared fit and healthy. Police are now looking into the case and attempting to find the child’s mother.

The locals are celebrating the hero cat – Lavrova said:

Everyone on the block is very proud of of her and we have all spoilt her rotten by giving her her favourite food.
