“I liked this show so much I cried,” wrote one reviewer.

CHANNEL 4 COMEDY Catastrophe, co-written by Rob Delaney and Meath’s own Sharon Horgan, just got a full release in the US.

It’s streaming on Amazon over there – and is garnering rave reviews for its portrayal of an Irish woman – played by Horgan – who sleeps with US businessman Delaney during a visit to London, and accidentally becomes pregnant.

Catastrophe also included some important moments of Irish culture, including the most Irish dad ever and some not-so-subtle Second Captains product placement.

And Americans are loving it.

“I liked this show so much I cried,” wrote Vulture’s reviewer. “It made me that happy.” Describing Sharon and Rob’s characters, she added:

love them. I am in love with them. I want to be them, be with them, maybe be their baby? Anything to extend our relationship beyond the six episodes.

The New York Times called it "a darker, more brittle take on... Gavin and Stacey" and Sharon Horgan "the Tina Fey of British TV".

"The chemistry between Delaney and Horgan is palpable and could easily drive several more seasons worth of story," wrote Liz Shannon Miller for Indiewire.

The joke of the title is that this pregnancy has ruined everything for both of them. But sometimes, beautiful things can be found in ruin.
