TEAM SKY RIDER Mark Cavendish says he is focused on himself and not his rivals ahead of the Milan-San Remo on tomorrow.
Cavendish will be searching for his second win of the race, which at 298 kilometres is the longest professional one-day event. Cavendish, who pulled out of the Tirreno-Adriatico a day early to help preparations for this weekend, is one of the favourites to win the event.
The Brit said he was unconcerned by his rivals, instead choosing to focus on the performance of his team.
“My rivals? I don’t know, we always think about ourselves. There are many possible riders, the important for me is the performance of the team,” Cavendish said.
“I’m ready. The team is strong. The lead-out is working, we’ve already had two wins. I’m ready. The team is ready. Let’s see on Saturday.”
Italian Vincenzo Nibali won the Tirreno-Adriatico on Tuesday, and Cavendish said the 27-year-old would again be a threat.
“He is strong, he did well at the Tirreno-Adriatico,” the 2009 Milan-San Remo champion said. ”Liquigas-Cannondale is strong as well. He may try to attack in the last climbs. But I don’t know. Milano-San Remo is a special race. It all depends on the last 100km.”
