Cesc Fabregas somehow didn't make the Monday Night Football team of the season so far

Elsewhere, the analysts picked David de Gea and Sergio Aguero as their best players.

IT WAS A controversial edition of Monday Night Football this evening, as Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville named their team of the season and made one notable omission.

Carragher backed the inclusion of Cesc Fabregas — who some believe has been the player of the season so far — however Neville opted for Southampton’s Morgan Schneiderlin.

The decision was then put down to a viewers’ vote, with Schneiderlin winning out, while Southampton teammate Jose Fonte was also selected ahead of Gary Cahill.

Elsewhere, the analysts picked David de Gea and Sergio Aguero as their best players respectively, while De Gea was also named as Carragher’s best young player alongside Neville’s choice of Thibaut Courtois.

In addition, Harry Kane and Gylfi Sigurdsson were the most improved players, while both chose Charlie Austin as best newcomer.

Finally, Sam Allardyce and Ronald Koeman were named as the managers of the year for the respective near miracles they have worked at Southampton and West Ham this season.
