NEW ZEALAND’S LYDIA KO carded the equal best score in the final round of the CN Canadian Women’s Open to win by three shots and, in doing so, become the youngest winner on the LPGA Tour.
Ko, 15, entered Sunday’s final round in Vancouver with a one-shot lead over the USA’s Stacy Lewis and hit seven birdies on her way to a five-under-par 67.
The New Zealander was joined at the top of the leaderboard during the front nine as Chella Choi moved up to nine under overall.
But Ko struck four consecutive birdies to begin her back nine to pull away from her rivals, eventually winning with an overall score of 13 under.
Inbee Park claimed second position with 10 under for the tournament after finishing her fourth round with three birdies and a bogey on the back nine to card a three-under 69.
The South Korean finished two strokes ahead of three of her compatriots who were tied for third.
Choi, Jiyai Shin and Na Yeon Choi all finished on eight under with the latter scoring a four-under 68 on the final day in Vancouver to move up five positions to equal third.
Lewis finished on seven under for the tournament in a tie for sixth with Sweden’s Anna Nordqvist, while South Korea’s Haeji Kang was a shot further back in eighth.
World No.1 Yani Tseng slumped to one over for the tournament and a tie for 35th after two bogeys and a double-bogey saw her finish with final round score of 74.
