Fall-out

It's a knock-out: Chisora could be banned from boxing for life

The British Boxing Board are looking into the Londoner’s behaviour over the weekend and could potentially revoke his licence.

BOXER DERECK CHISORA may be booted out of the sport for his part in the brawl at a Munich press conference over the weekend.

Chisora fought with David Haye in a room full of media after he was defeated by Vitali Klitshko and the 28-year-old was arrested for questioning by the German police but has since returned to England after being released without charges.

A statement made by the British Boxing Board this morning states that while Haye is no longer a licenced boxer and therefore is out of their jurisdiction, Chisora’s conduct will be investigated and he could potentially receive a lifetime ban.

“The British Boxing Board of Control are looking at the behaviour of British Boxing Board of Control licensed Boxer Dereck Chisora prior, during and after his contest for the World Boxing Council Heavyweight Championship against Vitali Klitschko on Saturday, 18th February 2012 in Munich,” the statement read.

“The Stewards will be considering Mr Chisora under Regulation 25 (misconduct) and a further statement will be issued once the Stewards have decided on what action will be taken.

“With regard to Mr David Haye, Mr Haye is not a licensed Boxer with the British Boxing Board of Control and therefore no longer under the jurisdiction of the British Boxing Board of Control.”

And speaking on BBC 5 Live, British Boxing Board of Control general secretary Robert Smith added:

“Of course it is (a possibility that he will receive a life ban). The board have many powers – they can fine, they can suspend and they can withdraw a licence.”

Wladimir Klitschko, meanwhile, wants Chisora to face the consequences for his “embarrassing and disgraceful” conduct following the British boxer’s loss to his older brother Vitali.

Klitschko says he is “shocked and deeply embarrassed” by the actions of Chisora and his team before and after his defeat. ”These kinds of actions … must be stopped, otherwise the sport of boxing is going to go down the hill fast,” he said.
