Louth's Ciaran Byrne marks injury comeback by signing new deal with Carlton Blues

Ciaran Byrne suffered a torn cruciate last year.

LOUTH MAN CIARAN Byrne has signed a contract extension with Carlton Blues, which will keep him at the club until at least the end of 2019.

Byrne, who first made the move Down Under in 2013, suffered a huge setback last year after suffering a cruciate ligament injury.

The 22-year-old recently made a return to the pitch, and has marked his comeback with a new deal alongside fellow defenders Tom Williamson and Harrison Macreadie, who have also signed two-year contract extensions with the Melbourne club.

Speaking on the official club website, Head of Football Andrew McKay said they were delighted to retain the services of the three players.

“On-field, Ciaran, Tom and Harrison have an important role to play in the future of the Club.”

“Ciaran has been meticulous with his commitment to rehab following his ACL injury last year and we are delighted that he is now back playing football. I’m sure he will be back in the senior side before too long.

“We believe all three players will be long-term prospects for us, and it’s pleasing to see the belief they have in the direction of the Club’s future by wanting to continue on the journey with us.”
