A MEETING IN Clare tonight will decide whether to grant a request for a deferral to next weekend’s Clare senior hurling semi-final fixtures.
Last night’s draw in the Banner county pitted the reigning champions Newmarket-on-Fergus against Ballyea in one last four clash while Clonlara will take on Sixmilebridge in the other tie.
But Clonlara are seeking to get the match put back a week as Clare defender Domhnall O’Donovan is unavailable this weekend due to work commitments.
Ballyea are supporting their request to fix the semi-finals played on the weekend of November 2nd-3rd.
That would mean the Clare county final would take place the following weekend but that could create problems for the eventual Banner champions in the provincial arena.
They are scheduled to face the winners of the Cork county final, Sarsfields or Midleton, in the semi-final of the Munster club championship on November 10th.
A request may end up being put to the Munster Council to have that game deferred a week until November 17th.
A further complication is the fact that Clondegad, the sister club of Ballyea, are still involved in the Clare senior football championship.
A decision will be made tonight to hammer out a fixtures programme for the remainder of the championship.
