Club Call: Crokes to face Stacks in last eight of the Kerry SFC

The quarter-final draw has been made this afternoon for the 2012 Kerry senior football championship.

REIGNING CHAMPIONS DR Crokes, who are bidding for their third successive title this year, will face Austin Stacks in the last eight of this year’s Garvey’s SuperValu Kerry senior football championship following this afternoon’s draw on Radio Kerry.

The tie, which will be a repeat of the 2010 final which Dr Crokes triumphed in by 1-15 to 0-11, will see Kerry stars Colm Cooper, Kieran O’Leary, Eoin Brosnan, Johnny Buckley and Fionn Fitzgerald (all Dr Crokes) in opposition against Kieran Donaghy (Austin Stacks). Dr Crokes reached this stage with a 1-15 to 1-9 victory over East Kerry in the fourth round yesterday while Austin Stacks were 1-9 to 0-7 winners over South Kerry the week before.

Elsewhere in the quarter-finals Laune Rangers, who defeated Milltown-Castlemaine by 2-9 to 0-8 last week in the fourth round, face Rathmore, who were victors over Killarney Legion by 1-12 to 1-5 yesterday in Fitzgerald Stadium.

Dingle, who defeated Kilcummin by 5-5 to 0-11 over the weekend, will be in opposition to Feale Rangers, who were last champions at this level in 2007. The final quarter-final pairing is still to be determined with St Michael’s-Foilmore and Kenmare, who drew on Saturday evening, having to replay their fourth round tie. The winners of that match will face St Kieran’s in the last eight.

2012 Kerry SFC Quarter-Final Draw: Laune Rangers v Rathmore; Dr Crokes v Austin Stacks; Dingle v Feale Rangers; St Michael’s-Foilmore/Kenmare v St Kieran’s.
