STEPHEN CLUXTON WILL be available to compete for Ireland in the International Rules series after his club exited the Dublin county championship over the weekend.
His side, Parnell’s, suffered a 1-9 to 0-7 defeat by Ballymun Kickhams, meaning he would be spared the pressure of having to choose between club and country.
Cluxton had previously been named as captain of the side, however manager Anthony Tohill faced a potentially embarrassing situation, amid concerns that Cluxton would be forced to reject the opportunity in favour of his club commitments.
It will serve as a boost for the Irish side, particularly in light of the withdrawal of Kerry star Darran O’Sullivan, due to club commitments.
It has also been confirmed that Cluxton will be joined on the trip by his Parnell’s teammate, Colm Begley, in addition to Finian Hanley, who is available after his club Salthill/Knocknacarra’s were beaten 1-8 to 0-9 by Tuam Stars in the Galway county championship yesterday.
Meanwhile, Leighton Glynn will also be on the plane after his club Rathnew agreed to postpone the Wicklow county final until his return.
The two matches against Australia take place on 28 October and 4 November, and will commence at 9.45am Irish time.
