CHRISTOPHER CULLEN, THE man accused of stabbing his estranged wife, Irishwoman Victoria Comrie Cullen, to death, has been found guilty.
Christopher Cullen, 51, had pleaded not guilty to murder, but guilty to manslaughter on the basis of self-defence and provocation.
A court in Sydney found Cullen guilty of repeatedly stabbing his estranged wife and cutting her throat at a pub in Taren Point, south Sydney in January 2014.
The Northern-Ireland born mother of three was found dead, slumped in a praying position, in a car park.
The judge in the case noted the “ferocity” of the attack.
After three and a half hours of deliberations, the jury found that Cullen had not been provoked and was not acting in self defence.
Cullen who is originally from the UK, was found hiding in mangroves nearby and had seven stab wounds. Some are understood to have been established as self-inflected.
The Bisbane Times reports that Comrie Cullen’s friend Renee Jomaa said her death was “devastating”.
“The trial detailed Comrie’s brave battle as a victim of domestic violence, and a terror she did not escape.”
